Animal Control Officers

The Northern Midlands Council, one of the largest and most diverse municipalities in Tasmania, is seeking to appoint suitably experienced candidates to fulfill the positions of Animal Control Officers.
These positions are being offered on a casual basis, with one full day every second Friday and then joining the on-call roster, which will involve one week every three to four weeks from 5pm Monday to 8.30am the following Monday (not including business hours). There may also be times where additional cover is needed to cover periods of leave.
The primary purpose of these positions is to actively promote Council’s Dog Management Policy by assisting with after-hours animal control matters throughout the municipality in accordance with the Dog Control Act 2000. Typical responsibilities may include responding to dog management issues, issuing infringement notices, investigating complaints, assisting Police with stray stock on the road, ensuring kennel licences are current, conducting annual kennel inspections and dog audits.
For your application to be considered you must have previous experience handling animals and hold a current manual drivers licence. In addition to this, you will have proficient administration experience and computer skills necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position. An understanding or working knowledge of the Dog Control Act 2000 will be looked upon favourably.
You will also have excellent customer service and communications skills. Similarly, you will be able to carry out your work exercising discretion and with the ability to use fair and reasonable judgement.
