    Youth at Risk (YaR)

    Youth at Risk (YaR)

The State Government is committed to improving the outcomes for all young people at risk in Tasmania, including those in greatest need that have come into contact with the statutory system (Child Safety or Youth Justice).

‘Youth at risk’ is a complex problem that requires collaborative intervention across government and non-government service sectors in order to identify risk and intervene earlier in the lives of vulnerable young people.

The Youth at Risk Strategy aligns and builds upon a number of reforms occurring across government including Strong Families, Safe Kids (Redesign of Child Safety Services), Safe Homes, Safe Families (the Family Violence Action Plan), Joined Up Human Services, Tasmania’s Affordable Housing Strategy and the Youth Suicide Prevention Plan.

    The Free2b

Girls Program is an early intervention approach to the personal development and social inclusion of girls aged 10-15 in regional communities around Australia. The program helps build self-belief and identity in teenage girls through focusing on their creative capabilities, positive attributes and contributions to their local community.

Free2b Girls groups provide participants with positive experiences of themselves, other women and their communities. Up to 15 girls are offered responsibility for a space where they can develop their own agendas and activities within established boundaries of safety, tolerance and respect. Groups run weekly for approx. 2 hrs and are assisted by local volunteers trained in the Free2b approach to helping foster the girls’ interests, passions and individual personalities.

Join us weekly for this free program. We currently have groups running in Longford (Tuesdays) and Campbell Town (Wednesdays) from 3-4:30pm.
