Northern Midlands Swimming Pool Strategy

The Northern Midlands Council has three public swimming pools, located in Cressy, Ross and Campbell Town. Built over the last 60 years, our swimming pools are highly valued by the community, but they also require a high level of ongoing maintenance and upgrades that are costly.

Modern swimming pool facilities now come in a variety of shapes, sizes, designs, and features to meet current standards, compliance, and community needs. Our goal is to have a fit for purpose Swimming Pool Strategy that maximises opportunities for the community and visitors to participate, and to enjoy modern facilities that meet legislative and compliance requirements.

The main challenges for us are maintenance, compliance, meeting needs and expectations, and funding. We are unable to continue to duplicate the significant funds required to cover the significant and ongoing costs of upkeep, maintenance, and improvements. Capital improvements have been undertaken at the Campbell Town War Memorial Oval and its pool facilities in recent years, and grant funding has been allocated for upgrades to the Cressy pool.

We acknowledge and respect that the communities of Cressy, Ross and Campbell Town all have different needs and aspirations regarding their swimming pools. To ensure that these needs and aspirations can be incorporated into our Swimming Pool Strategy, we have engaged Anna Bonython from Watershed Solutions to work with the communities of Cressy, Ross and Campbell Town to gain an insight into each communities perspective on the future of their local pool.

A community survey is available below and will also be distributed by the local swimming pool committees via a letter box drop. Completed surveys must be returned to Council Office at 13 Smith Street Longford TAS 7301 by 4:30pm, Friday 6th November 2020 or alternatively can be dropped off at Rustic Bakehouse (Cressy), the Post Office or Bakery 31 (Ross), and either the Campbell Town District High School or the Campbell Town Post Office (Campbell Town).
